• 64,160 live births were registered in New Zealand.
• The birth rate was 2.2 births per woman.
• Women aged 30–34 years had the highest fertility rate (125 births per 1,000 women).
• The median age of women giving birth was 30 years.
• The median age of women giving birth to their first child was 28 years.
• 29,150 deaths were registered.
• The infant mortality rate was 4.7 deaths per 1,000 live births.
• Births exceeded deaths by 35,010.
