Births and Deaths: December 2008 quarter

Highlights

In the December 2008 year:

There were 64,340 live births registered in New Zealand.
The birth rate was 2.2 births per woman.
Women aged 30–34 years had the highest fertility rate (126 births per 1,000 women).
The median age of women giving birth was 30 years.
The infant mortality rate was 5.0 deaths per 1,000 live births.
There were 29,190 deaths registered.Births exceeded deaths by 35,160.
