Visitors from Australia exceed 1 million
Highlights
Visitor arrivals (141,900) were up 1 percent from May 2008 (140,500).
There were more visitors from Australia (up 9,200), but fewer visitors from Korea (down 3,400), China (down 2,700) and Japan (down 2,500).
New Zealand-resident departures (163,700) were down 6 percent from May 2008 (174,000).
New Zealand residents departed on fewer trips to Australia (down 5,900), the United Kingdom (down 900) and Fiji (down 800).
Permanent and long-term arrivals exceeded departures by 2,700 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
