Resident departures stable
Highlights
Visitor arrivals (161,100) were down 1 percent from August 2008 (162,500).
There were more visitors from Australia (up 9,200), but fewer visitors from Japan (down 3,500), Korea (down 2,100), and China (down 1,900).
Departures of New Zealand residents (176,300) were unchanged from August 2008.
New Zealand residents departed on more trips to Australia (up 3,600), but fewer trips to the United States (down 1,400).
Permanent and long-term arrivals exceeded departures by 1,600 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
