External Migration: March 2008

Highlights

  • Visitor arrivals (250,800) were up 5 percent from March 2007 (239,200).
  • There were more visitors from Australia (up 6,700) and the United Kingdom (up 2,800), but fewer from Korea (down 3,000).
  • New Zealand resident departures (134,800) were up 2 percent from March 2007 (132,400).
  • There were more trips by New Zealand residents to the Cook Islands (up 700) and China (up 600), but fewer to Australia (down 800).

 

On a seasonally adjusted basis:

  • Visitor arrivals were unchanged from February 2008.
  • Overseas trips by New Zealand residents were down 5 percent.
  • Permanent and long-term arrivals exceeded departures by 500.
