- Median annual household income was $57,947 in 2007/08, up 3.9 percent from 2006/07.
- Median annual personal wage and salary income for those receiving income from this source was $35,000 (up 2.9 percent from 2006/07).
- Median weekly expenditure on housing costs rose from $130 in 2006/07, to $156 in 2007/08 (up 20.1 percent).

- For those making mortgage payments, median weekly mortgage payments rose from $256 to $328 (up 27.8 percent) between 2006/07 and 2007/08.
- In 2007/08, 28 percent of New Zealand households with a mortgage paid over $500 per week in mortgage payments (18 percent in 2006/07).
- For households making rent payments, median weekly household expenditure on rent was $225, up from $210 in 2006/07 (up 7.1 percent).

Addendum 22 March 2012
Please see Household Economic Survey (Income): Year ended June 2008 and 2009 revised tables (with imputation) for the revised tables. They include the correction to table 5, and revisions to table 5 and other tables as a result of improved methodology.
Addendum 22 December 2011
Please note that table 5 (Household Material Standard of Living) is subject to a correction, and has been withdrawn from the tables for this release. The correction changes the level of estimates in table 5, but has little impact on the overall proportions reported in the 'Material Standard of Living' section of the commentary for this release. A revised set of 2007/08 tables is now available on a separate page on the Statistics New Zealand website.
