Overseas Trade Indexes (Volumes): December 2008 quarter (provisional) - Revised 29 April 2009 - see attached erratum

Highlights

All references are to seasonally adjusted series and compared with the September 2008 quarter unless otherwise stated.

  • Merchandise export volumes fell 1.8 percent.
  • The petroleum and petroleum products (down 17.5 percent) and forestry products (down 5.7 percent) indexes were the main contributors to the fall in total exports volumes.
  • Merchandise import volumes fell 5.8 percent.
  • The passenger motor cars (down 27.1 percent) and capital goods (down 7.7 percent) indexes were the main contributors to the fall in import volumes.
  • Excluding fuel imports, merchandise import volumes fell 8.2 percent.
