More beverages available with less alcohol content
Highlights
In the December 2007 year:
The total volume of alcoholic beverage
available for consumption rose 1.4 percent
to reach a new high.
An increase in spirit-based drinks
accounted for the rise in the total volume of
spirits.
The volume of pure alcohol available per
head of population aged 15 years and over,
decreased for the first time since 2003.
Beer as a proportion of the total beverage
available for consumption fell to 66.4
percent.
Wine available for consumption recorded its
first fall since 2001 and contributed nearly
one-fifth to the total beverage available.
The volume of tobacco available for
consumption increased to reach a new high
since the time series began in 1973.
